Gardner is a small city in Central Massachusetts, with approximately 22,000 residents. Gardner has a mix of commercial, industrial and residential property owners supporting the municipal budget. The city has its own school district, in addition to Gardner Academy, Holy Family Academy, and Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School (Monty Tech) as the local trade school. Gardner is undergoing a revitalization of the downtown, with market rate rental apartments, sliding scale rentals for the elderly and an assisted living community. Local shops such as The Velvet Goose, Lakin’s Children’s Fine Apparel, Dow’s Shoe Store, John’s Sport Shop, Erickson Silver, Tanguay Jewelers and Priscilla Candy Shop have been in business for decades, and upon visiting you’ll find unique gifts, great service and the continuing of family traditions. Two recent major municipal projects are the Police Station and the Gardner Elementary School. There are 2 manufactured home parks in Gardner (reserved for buyers age 55+), where many lifelong residents choose to eventually downsize and make their retirement homes, in order to stay in Gardner. Central to Gardner is Mount Wachusett Community College, the Gardner Municipal Golf Course and Henry Heywood Hospital. The North Central Pathway is an accessible trail with several access points.
