Great news! We’ve got some measurable progress on the unexpected crisis of crumbling concrete foundations in Massachusetts! An amendment to the state budget has passed in the legislature regarding appointing a stakeholder working group and the next step is approval by the governor. *Not to scare you., but the house pictured above is in Holden.
This is a much needed step forward in helping affected homeowners. Not many of us can afford $150K – $200K to replace our foundations, and it truly could happen to almost any of us. The rest of you with your fieldstone and block foundations don’t have to worry about pyrrhotite, but I suspect we’ll all eventually know someone who has to replace their concrete foundation due to pyrrhotite. Want to know more? Here are links to the stories I’ve written about the issue, as well as the language that was passed regarding the stakeholder working group to be appointed.
Stay tuned–I will be asking you to help SOON! We will need to contact the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) after that to encourage efficiency in getting the working group started and to follow their progress.
*My stories are in chronological order, so you can get right up to speed. But before my stories, I’d like to watch the video below and follow the Foundation Solutions of NE social media (their links are directly below). Their videos are both fascinating and terrifying.
