Review: Sa’MoreRay’s & Sons, new dine-in/takeout in Westminster

Have you been to the new sandwich shop in Westminster? Sa’MoreRay’s & Sons has a seasonal food truck location on Central Street in Leominster, and they’ve recently opened a year-round dine-in/takeout restaurant at 4 Village Square in Westminster. The shop is mid-way between Blueprint and The Angler in the back of the plaza on Main Street, behind my office at 107 Main Street in Westminster. The location was a former hair salon, and the transformation of the space looks fantastic!

Sa’MoreRay’s & Sons is now in full operation. When I consider writing a review, I like to visit a restaurant a few times, sampling a few different menu items so that I can write about a variety of their selections. However,  I’ve been to Sa’MoreRay’s three times now, and every time I’ve ordered the exact same thing. Even more surprising to me, my choice has been Mom’s Chicken Salad Wrap every time. I am very particular about chicken salad, but I got brave and ordered that sandwich the first time in, and it was just the right texture and taste, so it’s now my go-to!

On a recent trip, Jay had the Classic Reuben and Max had the Boston Italian, both also with good reviews. Next time I’m in, I’m committed to trying something new–either the Steak and Cheese Melt or one of their daily soup specials. I’ve heard very good things about the Creamy Chick Noodle Crack Soup.

I know it’s a new restaurant so it should look all shiny and new, but I am very attentive to cleanliness in restaurants, and it always seems very well kept and clean when I’ve been in.

Areas for improvement? Some quick and easy edits, that I’ve given feedback on. The great news is that the food is delicious, so any of my suggestions just make the front end easier on the consumer. It has been a bit of a hassle to place my order, since the phone number on their Facebook page is that of the food truck, which is currently closed for the season–so if you call that number, be prepared with something to write with, or put the 978 571 8040 in your phone if you’d like to have the restaurant number handy. Also, the hours posted on the website and Facebook page don’t match. One last thing is the decor and general appearance of the shop makes me think I’ll be listening to Chuck Berry or Elvis, but the music that’s on never seems to  match the vibe of the shop, in my opinion, and they are clearly committed to their decor. All that said, again the food is delicious, and I heard they will be adding more variety in their menu choices to expand on their healthy options.

I’ve bought several gift certificates, as I’m happy to introduce the family to Sa’MoreRay’s. Ray himself provided the photos I’ve used here. I’m rooting for the success of this small, locally owned business. They are off to a great start!
