Rattle Root Farm: Wooo! Progress at the Farm, pop up Farmers Market

We stopped in at Rattle Root Farm on the last day of May, to check in a week before the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares weekly pick ups begin. The farm is located at 89 Mirick Road in Princeton, and although they have sold out of shares for this year, it appears that their crop yield will be more than sufficient to support the committed customers and more!

If you don’t didn’t get in on their sold out shares, they will be setting up Saturdays throughout the season, at the Mountainside Café at 213 Mountain Road in Princeton, 11am – 2pm on Saturdays, June 17 through October 28, 2023. Rattle Root Farm will have a small farmers market with a sampling of their available products each week. The first few weeks will offer greens and roots, and the variety will grow as the season progresses.

“Rattle Root Farm is a one acre, no-till, hand-scale farm situated a stone’s throw from Mt. Wachusett in Princeton, MA. We grow beyond-organic vegetables, herbs and flowers for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), wholesale, and farmer’s markets.” –Rattle Root Farm website

If you signed up for a share, you will soon receive a weekly email letting you know what’s available for your Tuesday or Friday pick up.

Pictured above is a rye crop that they grow specifically to be mulch, grown in place. At just the right time, the farmers will catch the rye right before it seeds, and crimp the crop down to the ground. It will be tarped, and then the next crop will be planted Into that mulch in nutrient rich soil. I have to say, the farm looks very tidy every time I drive by.
