With the weather finally being appropriately seasonal, at least for the moment, I’m back to doing occasional Friday night open houses. I had a lot going on last week, so as my open house was nearing the end, I texted Jay to see what he wanted to do for dinner. Unfortunately, his response was “All three dogs had an altercation with a sick looking raccoon. When will you be home?” He had wiped them all down with a white cloth and discovered that only one of them had any blood on them. A past rabies scare (don’t ask) had educated me and I knew they all needed boosters. I called VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group) in Shrewsbury, which had come highly recommended, but I had not yet used them. I alerted them that we would be coming, and we decided to take two cars since it’s possible that there could be an extra level of rambunctiousness with all 3 of them in the same vehicle. They had a great evening–nice long ride in the car, belly rubs at the emergency clinic and treats. They are quarantining quietly at home for 45 days, but they don’t leave the yard anyway other than to go to the vet, so nothing has changed for them, other than Scout gets a little extra snack twice a day because she’s on an antibiotic for her role in the altercation. I’ll surely be writing a review about VEG in the future newsletter—their care, attention to detail and general reasonability was exactly what we were looking for.
