I met Angie and Corey DeLisle when one of our kids was dating one of their kids early in high school. Since neither of those teenagers could yet drive a car, we were frequently dropping off/picking up and Angie and I became friendly acquaintances. I’ve stayed in touch with her through Facebook, and have admired her baking skills, and her husband is in a band–they are obviously much cooler than us. I watched as she perfected sourdough bread before that was even the rage.
Then just a few days ago, I saw that she posted that she and Corey wrote a book, edited by their daughter Alexa DeLisle. Angie said that Food With a View Italia has been churning since they started planning a trip to Italy months ago. “It is a compilation of pictures (100% our own photos) of things we ate and drank during our trip. As the name implies, the “view” plays an important role in the enjoyment of a meal. Accompanying the pictures of the food are pictures of the view, either right beyond the plate, right outside of the restaurant or right in the neighborhood of where we were eating. We visited 7 regions out of the 20 in Italy and let me tell you, GOOD LORD THE FOOD WAS AMAZING.”
Since rumor has it that we may have an upcoming family wedding in Italy (not my idea), I decided to buy Food With a View Italia to put on our coffee table and learn more about Italy and its amazing food. I can’t disagree with some of the visuals in this beautiful book~~pasta with tomato basil cream sauce and lemon marinated zucchini, pesto lasagna, zucchini blossom caprese and so many more.
From the introduction: “We are Angie and Corey! Two accidental foodies that love cooking food, eating food, learning about food and seeking out new kinds of food. The idea for this book came to us one day as we prepared for our two week trip to Italy and Sicily.
Arguably home to the best food in the world, Italy is a foodie’s paradise. We knew we had to document our trip with photographs of everything we ate. We took pictures of breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, snacks and everything in between. We are not professional photographers or writers, but just two regular people with iPhones on the trip of a lifetime.
In this book, you will see many things we ate along the way. As our book title implies, the “view” often plays a key role in the enjoyment of a meal. Accompanying the pictures of the things we are, are pictures of the view either right beyond the plate, right outside the door of the restaurant or right in the neighborhood of where we were eating.
We will take you on a culinary journey through the seven regions of Italy we visited during our trip. It is our hope that you will enjoy the FOOD and the VIEW as much as we did!”
