Our oldest daughter Jane and her family live in New Zealand. The first question I always get when I tell someone that is how she end up there? Well, she met her husband Matt while working in Maui the summer after college. A few years later they got married in Maui and we had their wedding reception here and celebrated with family and friends at the Red Apple Farm. But Matt is from New Zealand, and that’s where they ended up. We, of course, hold out hope that someday they’ll move back to the states, but in the meantime, we have lots of video calls, and very exciting – – this is the first year they will be in the states for Christmas!
You sure don’t see our granddaughters Nixie and Elka around town much, but I do sneak their pictures in on my stories sometimes, so I bet you’ve seen them!
While I do consider myself a planner, I’m much more looking forward to relaxing and hanging out with them when they are here than structured activities. With some exceptions that require a specific day/time commitment ahead of time, I don’t want to know in October what we’ll be doing every day in December.
That said, I am making a list of things that they’ll enjoy doing when they’re here. I’ll tell you a little about them, and then would love your feedback on ideas you have. You can use the contact form below, or text me or whatever your preferred method of reaching out to me is.
Nixie and Elka are 9 and 7. They are a little rough and tumble, they know how to hunt and fish. They are great swimmers, they can ski. Nixie loves science, and they are practical jokers, with epic senses of humor. The photo above is Nixie in her mud kitchen.
I asked Jane for some ideas and got this: In terms of activities, the girls have been making presentations and doing slide shows on the topic about once a week. The science museum is definitely a must do. As is the new ice cream museum.
