This story is in its beginner stages, as I am hoping to get input on your favorite places for hiking, biking, and accessible trails. I remember as a little kid, visiting my great grandparents where they camped oceanfront at the Nelson Street trailer park in Plymouth. One day we went to the Myles Standish State Forest and explored the bicycle trails. Not being very worldly, and probably about eight years old, the concept of a paved bicycle path was new and fascinating to me.
Years and years and years later, my friend KC invited me to participate in an annual trip that she did on her bicycle – – I think it was about 35 miles round-trip, but we hit three states— starting in Salisbury, Massachusetts, up through Seabrook and Hampton, New Hampshire, and to Kittery, Maine, with a stop at the Isles of Shoals lookout. We made this trip after Labor Day weekend, because KC said the traffic would be lighter than summer traffic, but I didn’t particularly enjoy the distraction of having to pay attention to traffic.
I came across the photo at the top of this story when I searched ‘trail’ in my phone pictures. It’s actually from when my youngest son Adam took a year off between high school and college, and spent 10 weeks doing a solo bicycle trip in New Zealand. He took the Tour Aotearoa route, which is about 2000 miles from the northern tip to the southern tip of New Zealand. Live Chat or Email me YOUR favorite LOCAL-ISH places.
