Patio Rescue: New Local Business Profile

Patio Rescue: New Local Business Profile

What a great name for a business, Patio Rescue! It’s simple, easy to remember, and you know exactly what it means. I’ve been to a lot of parties at homes with beautiful outdoor living spaces, and I’ve had the opportunity to sell homes (a recent one pictured below) with beautifully hardscaped outdoor living areas, backyard kitchens, built-in grills, stunning pools, firepits, retaining walls, etc. – – all done by Young Landscapes.

I’ve seen Kevin Young at some of these parties, and when I’m talking with sellers about their property – – when I notice, or comment on, the backyard, sellers casually will say “Oh, Kevin did that”–as if I should automatically know who Kevin is, or maybe he’s a friend or family member. They always have good things to say about the product and the process. It’s really the perfect example of why to hire local–because a good local contractor, someone who is accessible, creative and does a great job, isn’t always easy to find.

Young Landscapes created the patio/entrance area in front of my Keller Williams office at 107 Main Street in Westminster as part of a stunning curb appeal update at Vincent’s Country Store several years ago. That thing gets a lot of foot traffic! Kevin and crew were just back to refresh the patio and it looks amazing all over again (quick video below).

As soon as I saw Patio Rescue existed, I reached out to Kevin and his team to get some questions answered about how Patio Rescue works–because we’ve all seen a patio that needs rescued. Maybe yours? Keep reading.

13 Sawin Drive Westminster

Founded in 2006 by Kevin Young, Young Landscapes was built on a passion for craftsmanship and hardscape design. From initial concept to final installation, our team manages every detail to ensure a seamless process and a finished outdoor space that is both functional and beautifully built to last. That same commitment to quality and care continues to guide every project we take on.

What made you decide to launch Patio Rescue as a separate brand? Was there a gap you kept seeing, a type of call you kept getting, or a problem that needed its own name?
We launched Patio Rescue because we saw a major demand for hardscape restoration and maintenance services. A lot of homeowners didn’t necessarily need a brand-new patio — they needed someone who could properly restore and maintain the one they already had. We were getting more and more calls for cleaning, sanding, sealing, and repairs, and it became clear that this service deserved its own identity and focus. Patio Rescue allows us to specialize in preserving and revitalizing outdoor spaces while continuing the same level of quality and craftsmanship people know from Young Landscapes.

How does Patio Rescue differ from what Young Landscapes already does? Where does one end and the other begin?
They are somewhat the same in that Young Landscapes lays down the pavers for a patio and Patio Rescue will go in and do the maintenance on them and do any of the repairs that need to be done.

What does Patio Rescue actually do?
Patio Rescue helps bring old patios and outdoor spaces back to life. Instead of tearing everything out and starting over, we clean them up, fix problem areas, refill the joints, seal the surface, and make everything look fresh and new again. A lot of people have patios that are still in good shape structurally — they just need some attention after years of weather, dirt, weeds, and wear. We help homeowners protect the investment they already have and make their backyard look great again without the cost of a full replacement.

What are the most common problems that bring someone to Patio Rescue? What does a typical “rescue” actually look like?
The most common problems we see are patios that have become faded, dirty, uneven, full of weeds, or starting to lose the sand between the joints. A lot of homeowners think they need to replace the entire patio when really it just hasn’t been maintained over the years. Weather, foot traffic, moisture, and New England winters can really wear outdoor surfaces down over time.

A typical “rescue” usually starts with a deep cleaning to remove dirt, stains, moss, and buildup. From there, we repair any problem areas, re-sand the joints to tighten everything back up, and seal the surface to help protect it moving forward. By the time we’re done, the patio often looks dramatically different — cleaner, brighter, safer, and much more polished without having to completely rebuild it.

What surfaces, materials, or structures do you work with?
We work with a wide range of outdoor hardscape surfaces and structures, including concrete pavers, natural stone patios, brick walkways, retaining walls, pool decks, steps, fire pit areas, outdoor kitchens, and other outdoor living spaces. Our services cover everything from cleaning and restoration to repairs, re-sanding, sealing, and long-term maintenance. Whether it’s a residential backyard patio or a larger commercial hardscape area, we focus on restoring the appearance, stability, and overall condition of the space while helping protect it from future wear and weather damage.

Is there a point where a patio or outdoor space is too far gone to rescue — when you have to tell a homeowner it needs to come out and start over? How do you make that call?
Yes — there are definitely situations where an outdoor space is beyond a practical repair, and honesty with the homeowner is important. Our goal is always to save and restore a patio when it makes sense, but if the foundation underneath has failed, there’s major settling, poor drainage, widespread movement, or the materials have significantly deteriorated, sometimes replacement becomes the better long-term solution.
We make that decision by looking at the overall structural condition of the space, not just the surface appearance. Many patios may look rough on top but are still solid underneath and can be successfully restored. Others may continue to shift or fail even after repairs because the base was never installed properly or has broken down over time. When we evaluate a project, we explain both options honestly — what can realistically be restored, what the expected lifespan would be, and whether investing in a full rebuild would ultimately provide better value for the homeowner.

Do you also handle new patio installations through Patio Rescue, or is it exclusively repair and renovation work?
Patio Rescue primarily focuses on hardscape restoration, maintenance, repair, and renovation work, but we also handle new patio installations when a project requires a complete rebuild or replacement. In many cases, homeowners contact us thinking they need a brand-new patio, when a restoration is actually the better option. Other times, after evaluating the condition of the space, we may determine that starting over is the best long-term solution.

Because of our background in full hardscape construction through Young Landscapes, we’re able to offer both restoration and new installation services depending on what makes the most sense for the customer and the condition of the project.

Tell me about a project — from either Patio Rescue or Young Landscapes — that genuinely raised the bar for you. One that pushed your skills, surprised you, or that you still think about as a real masterpiece.
One project that really stands out to us was providing patio maintenance and restoration work at Loon Mountain. The property sees a tremendous amount of foot traffic and exposure to harsh New England weather year-round, so maintaining the appearance and condition of the outdoor spaces was extremely important.

The project involved deep cleaning, restoring the patio surfaces, reworking joint areas, and bringing life back into outdoor spaces that had become weathered over time. What made the project unique was the scale of the property and the attention to detail required to maintain a clean, high-end appearance in a busy commercial environment. Every part of the process had to be carefully planned and executed while working around guests and daily operations.

Projects like Loon Mountain are rewarding because they show the value of proper hardscape maintenance. Instead of completely replacing outdoor spaces, we were able to restore and refresh the patios while helping extend their lifespan and preserve the overall look and feel of the property. It’s a project we’re proud of because it reflects both the craftsmanship and professionalism we bring to every job.

Was there a project that genuinely challenged you in ways you didn’t expect — technically, logistically, or creatively? What made it hard, and how did you get through it?
Again, maintaining and restoring the patio areas at Loon Mountain. On the surface, it seemed straightforward — restore and clean the hardscape areas — but once we got into the project, the scale, logistics, and timing became much more complex.

Because it’s an active resort property with constant guest traffic, we had to carefully coordinate the work around daily operations while still maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency. The outdoor surfaces had also taken years of wear from weather, heavy use, moisture, and winter conditions, so every area required a different level of attention and restoration.

The biggest challenge was balancing production with detail. In commercial environments like that, there’s very little room for mistakes, delays, or disruption to the customer experience. We had to stay organized, communicate constantly as a team, and adapt as conditions changed throughout the project.

When you walk away from a finished job and look back at it, what makes you feel proudest? What’s the detail or moment that tells you the work was done right?
When we walk away from a finished project, the thing that makes us the proudest is seeing how naturally everything came together and knowing the customer can immediately enjoy the space. It’s not just about whether the patio looks good — it’s the small details that tell you the work was done right. Clean lines, smooth transitions, proper drainage, tight joints, lighting placement, and the overall flow of the space all matter.
A big moment for us is when the customer steps outside at the end of the project and you can genuinely see their reaction change. Sometimes it’s seeing them picture themselves entertaining family and friends, or realizing their backyard has completely transformed from an unused space into somewhere they actually want to spend time. That’s when you know the project was successful.

We also take pride in knowing the work was built to last, not just to look good for a photo. The craftsmanship underneath the surface is just as important as the finished appearance, and that attention to detail is what separates a quality project from one that only looks good temporarily.

How does someone get started with Patio Rescue? Do you do free estimates? What does that first conversation or site visit look like?
Getting started with Patio Rescue is simple. We offer free estimates and make the process easy and convenient through our website. Customers will be able to upload photos of their patio or outdoor space, provide basic dimensions, and answer a few questions about the condition of the area. Based on that information, the website will generate an estimated price range before the request is even submitted.

Once we review the information, we can schedule a site visit if needed to further evaluate the condition of the space, discuss goals for the project, and determine the best restoration or maintenance solution. During that visit, we look at things like surface wear, joint failure, drainage, settling, staining, and overall structural condition.
Our goal is to make the process as transparent and straightforward as possible while helping customers understand their options and the best approach for protecting and restoring their outdoor space.

What’s the service area — which towns or regions do you work in?
We are serving Worcester County and west also to the southern NH border. Offering commercial, residential power washing and patio repairs.

What’s the busiest time of year for this kind of work, and how far out are you typically booking? Is there a best time for homeowners to reach out if they want work done by a certain season?
The busiest time of year for patio restoration and maintenance is typically spring through early fall, especially once homeowners start preparing their outdoor spaces for warmer weather and entertaining season. In New England, we usually see a big increase in calls in March, April, and May as people begin noticing damage from the winter and want their patios cleaned, repaired, and ready for summer.

During peak season, projects can book out several weeks to a few months depending on the scope of work and weather conditions. The earlier homeowners reach out, the better — especially if they want their patio completed before summer gatherings, pool season, or fall events.

One of the biggest things we encourage people to understand is that patio maintenance is preventative. Waiting until a patio looks heavily worn or damaged can sometimes lead to more extensive repairs later on. Reaching out early allows us to evaluate the condition of the space, recommend the right services, and get projects scheduled before the busiest part of the season.

What should a homeowner do — or not do — before calling you? Is there anything that makes a project easier or harder on your end when you arrive?
Before calling us, one of the most helpful things a homeowner can do is take a few clear photos of the patio or outdoor space and have a rough idea of the size or dimensions of the area. That gives us a much better understanding of the condition of the surface and helps us provide more accurate recommendations and pricing early in the process. Through our website, customers can upload photos and measurements directly, which helps streamline everything before we even arrive on-site.

We also encourage homeowners not to try quick “fixes” before reaching out. Sometimes pressure washing with the wrong equipment, using harsh chemicals, or attempting temporary repairs can actually cause additional damage to pavers, joint sand, or sealing surfaces.

On our end, projects are always easier when we have clear access to the work area and a good understanding of the customer’s goals from the beginning. The more information we have upfront, the smoother the process is for everyone. But overall, our goal is to make things simple and guide homeowners through the process step-by-step, whether the patio needs a simple refresh or a more extensive restoration.

What’s something people often assume about patio repair that isn’t true — a misconception you find yourself correcting regularly?
One of the biggest misconceptions we run into is homeowners thinking that if a patio looks worn out, uneven, or full of weeds, it automatically needs to be completely replaced. In reality, many patios are still structurally solid and can be restored for a fraction of the cost of a full rebuild. Proper cleaning, repairs, re-sanding, sealing, and maintenance can dramatically improve both the appearance and lifespan of an outdoor space.

Another common misconception is that pressure washing alone is enough to maintain a patio. While cleaning is an important part of the process, it’s only one step. Without re-sanding joints, addressing drainage or settling issues, and protecting the surface properly, the patio can quickly start breaking down again.

We spend a lot of time educating customers that hardscapes require maintenance just like any other part of a home. The goal isn’t just to make the patio look good temporarily — it’s to protect the investment long-term and keep the space performing the way it was intended to.

What are you most excited about for Patio Rescue right now — a new service, a type of project you’re looking to do more of, or something you’re just getting started with?
What excites us most right now about Patio Rescue is the opportunity to build more awareness around hardscape restoration and maintenance as a specialized service. A lot of homeowners invest heavily into their outdoor spaces, but many don’t realize that patios and hardscapes need ongoing care to maintain their appearance and longevity. We’re excited to help educate people on that while offering a service that can completely transform an outdoor space without requiring a full replacement.

We’re also looking forward to expanding more into larger restoration projects for high-end residential and commercial properties where maintenance, appearance, and long-term performance are especially important. Projects involving outdoor living spaces, pool patios, lighting, fire features, and full patio restorations are something we’re passionate about because they combine craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail.

Another exciting part is the technology side of the business. We’re developing a streamlined process through our website where customers can upload photos and dimensions of their patio and receive preliminary pricing before even scheduling a visit. Making the process easier, faster, and more transparent for homeowners is something we believe will really set Patio Rescue apart.

What does success look like for Patio Rescue a few years from now — and how does it fit alongside Young Landscapes long-term?
A few years from now, success for Patio Rescue means becoming a recognized and trusted name in hardscape restoration and maintenance throughout the region. We want people to immediately think of Patio Rescue when they need patio cleaning, restoration, sealing, repairs, or long-term maintenance for their outdoor living spaces. The goal is to build a brand that specializes in protecting and extending the life of outdoor investments while delivering the same level of craftsmanship and professionalism that Young Landscapes has always been known for.

Long-term, Patio Rescue fits alongside Young Landscapes as a complementary division that fills an important gap in the market. Young Landscapes focuses heavily on design and installation of outdoor living spaces, while Patio Rescue focuses on maintaining, restoring, and preserving those spaces over time. Together, the two brands allow us to support customers through the entire lifecycle of their outdoor projects — from new construction to long-term care and restoration.

We also see Patio Rescue creating opportunities to expand into larger commercial maintenance programs, recurring service packages, and higher-end restoration work. Ultimately, success is about building a strong reputation, creating lasting customer relationships, and continuing to grow both brands while staying committed to quality, detail, and customer experience.

What’s something you wish someone would ask you about this work — something that never comes up but says a lot about what you do or why you do it?
Something I wish more people asked about is what actually happens underneath the surface of a patio or hardscape project. Most people naturally focus on how the finished space looks — the pavers, lighting, fire features, or overall design — but what really determines whether a project lasts 5 years or 25 years is the work you never see.

Proper base preparation, drainage, grading, compaction, and attention to detail underneath the patio are what make the biggest difference long-term. The same goes for maintenance. A lot of what we do at Patio Rescue is protecting the structural integrity of outdoor spaces before problems become major failures.

I also think people don’t always realize how personal these projects become for homeowners. We’re not just working on patios — we’re creating spaces where families gather, where people entertain, relax, celebrate milestones, and spend time together. That’s a big reason why we care so much about quality and detail. When you understand how much people use and value these spaces, the work means a lot more than just installing or repairing pavers.
