Kelly’s Flower Brook Farm: Local Business Profile

When I worked with one of our sons to help him on his home purchase transaction in Westminster, there was an unanticipated perk to his location. In order to get from his house to our house, he has to drive by a sourdough bread stand AND Kelly’s Flower Brook Farm in Westminster. He’s always bringing bread and on holidays, we can usually count on him for a surprise centerpiece or decorative jar of cut flowers. I was pretty excited with I reached out to Kelly and she agreed to participate in my Local Business Profile stories! In her words:

Kelly’s Flower Brook Farm began in a very simple way — with a love for gardening and growing flowers. Before starting the flower farm, I spent nearly 30 years working in emergency dispatch, beginning my career here in the town where I grew up. It was meaningful work helping people during some of their most stressful moments, but over time I found myself drawn to something quieter and creative — working in the garden.

At first I simply grew flowers to enjoy and share with friends and neighbors. Eventually I set a few bouquets out on a small pallet table my husband built, simply to see if anyone might stop. To my surprise, people did — and they kept coming back.

That little pallet table eventually grew into the self-serve flower stand we have today at 65 Bacon Street in Westminster.

During the growing season I spend much of my time planting, harvesting, and caring for the flowers here at the farm. Fresh bouquets and arrangements are stocked at the stand so neighbors and visitors can stop by and take home something grown locally.

In addition to the farm stand, I create floral arrangements for weddings and special events and offer DIY flower buckets for those who want to design their own arrangements using flowers grown here on the farm. During the season we also offer bouquet subscriptions, and in the winter months I create wreaths handcrafted from locally sourced greens from a nearby Christmas tree farm.

Now going into our fourth year, it’s exciting to see how much the farm has grown. One of the newest additions is a community seed exchange at the stand, where visitors are welcome to take seeds or leave some to share.

This spring we are also excited to break ground on a small barn here at the farm, which will allow us to host workshops and small gatherings centered around flowers and gardening.

One of the things I love most is meeting people at the stand. Some are new visitors and others have been part of this journey since the very beginning — back when I was putting out the first mason jars of flowers. I remember meeting a woman who had recently lost her husband and gifting her a sunflower arrangement. That one bouquet meant so much to her and reminded me how something as simple as flowers can bring comfort and connection.

For me, the flower farm is really about community — creating a place where people can slow down, enjoy something beautiful, and bring a little bit of nature home with them.

Warmly,
Kelly
