We recently went candlepin bowling, of all things, at American Flatbread at 85 Green Street in Worcester. It started because our middle son was in town, which puts us at five out of six kids, and when almost everyone is around – – we try to come up with fun things to do.

I mentioned to my youngest son that maybe we should try candlepin bowling, and he immediately said American Flatbread! He does go to school in Worcester and has an awareness of neighborhoods and businesses, and he was spot on!

As with many of our family gatherings, we were down a few kids, but up a few extra guests. So in total, there were nine of us. I made reservations and rented two lanes for two hours. I have to say, their shoes all looked alike, and they looked new, and they looked clean. That’s important when you’re agreeing to wear public shoes.
The bowling alley is located in the lower level of American Flatbread, and one person in our group commented that she had been to the restaurant before, but I had no idea there was a bowling alley in the basement.

We ordered three pizzas and they had a good menu and a bar with beer, wine, cocktails, and mocktails. It was clean, the people were friendly, and it was a lot of fun.

I’m not sure we ever quite figured out the scoring, because Jay got one strike and he somehow ended up with SUCH a higher score than the rest of us–could have been because our scorekeeper was only somewhat paying attention to scoring.
