Everyone has a story worth telling. Most of us just never get around to writing it down. Robert Cress of Westminster did. His path has taken him from the coastal mountains of Oregon to the Army, a CPA certificate, and a career as a healthcare CFO, with plenty of backpacking, scuba diving, and camper travel along the way. But the story he chose to tell started with a dream he’d put off since he was a young man: riding his motorcycle across the United States. At 71, he did it. What follows is in his own words, lightly edited for consistency.
Robert Cress
Town: Westminster, MA
As a young man, a friend suggested to me that I ride my motorcycle across the United States. Various pursuits and distractions kept me from doing the ride. However, the dream never quite went away. At the age of 71 I decided to fulfill the dream. As I shared my story about my ride with others, they encouraged me to write this book. The title of it came from the most frequently asked question I encountered on this trip.

Hey, Is That Your Bike? (Travel memoir, 2024)
Hey, Is That Your Bike? Rediscovering Adventure: A Tale of Grit, Roads, and Rediscovery. This book is about adventure, nostalgia, and the pursuit of freedom. Robert Cress embarks on a motorcycle journey that is as much about the miles traveled as it is about the memories revisited and the people he meets. It’s a ride across the landscape of America, journeying through the winding roads of the soul. Along the way there are encounters with old friends, forgotten dreams, and the relentless spirit of adventure that refuses to fade with age.
