Nothing is more New England than Burn Permit season

Pick up your sticks and hose and have some good old fashioned New England outdoor fun during Open Burning Season, which runs January 15 to May 1 each year. We’ve put together a list of local cities and towns, with links to their specific requirements and instructions on how to get and activate your Burn Permit. Don’t see your town on the list below? Message me and we’ll add it to the list!

Open burning is allowed from mid winter to early spring across most of Massachusetts. If open burning is allowed in your community, contact your local fire department to obtain an open burning permit in advance. You will not find any links on the state website for open burning permits. You must contact your local fire department directly. Open burning permits are issued at the local level based on local conditions. State fire wardens determine each day whether conditions are safe for open burning. Weather and air quality can change rapidly, especially in the spring, and fire departments can rescind permits when that happens. Open burning must be done between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from January 15 to May 1, and must be at least 75 feet from all dwellings.” —Mass.gov Open Burning Safety
