My Bathroom Mini-Reno: During

My Bathroom Mini-Reno project story was among our most popular in last month’s newsletter. I was so motivated and excited to get rid of that green plaid vinyl stick tile floor! Then I got busy, and had an upcoming listing that needed a fair amount of my go-to handyman‘s available time, so as per what you’d expect, I pulled him off my bathroom job in the name of helping a client.

I do really like the tile we chose. I went with a 12 x 24 tile with a brick run pattern. There are shades of tan and gray in the tile, and if I put a blue towel next to it, I can see a little blue. The toilet has been reinstalled, so that is exceptionally good news.

I really struggled with the wall paint color. I was originally going to stay with the color we had, Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist, because it does coordinate with the tile, but I’m replacing a few towel bars, and if I’m going to patch walls and prime the patched areas, I’m for-sure switching up the paint color.

When we bought our house in 2016, the sellers recently had the exterior painted, all the hardwood flooring on the first floor refinished, and had painted the open concept first floor living areas. You didn’t have to be too much of a detective to figure out that they probably received the news of their failed septic system right about as they were heading up the stairs to paint walls and refinish the floors on the second floor. That is where the optional preparation for sale likely came to a screeching halt.

Some of the colors in the assortment currently on the walls of my house are up for consideration in the Bathroom Mini-Reno project. My favorite color is Titanium, but I already have that in a few rooms, so reaching out a little further, the top four contenders were Titanium, Pearl River, Arctic Gray and Silver Chain.

Project progress over the past week or so includes replacing a light that I replaced about five years ago, to a much more contemporary and simple fixture and removal of the inset wooden medicine cabinet. Try as I might, I could not find a replacement inset medicine cabinet as large as the existing one, so I needed to make a decision on size versus style. I went with style, so we boxed in the existing recessed area to the same size as the new all-mirror medicine cabinet, but I love the look of it.

I ended up going with the color Silver Chain on the Bathroom walls, and Simply White on the window and door trim.

Sad news for a few of the plants that were forgotten over in the room where I had been storing the bathroom plants. Several appreciated the time away from my irresponsible watering techniques, but a few were just too delicate.

I think when we see the reveal of my Bathroom Mini-Reno when it’s completed, we will see it with the existing vanity put back in place, because I have yet to find a vanity that I love. I don’t hate the old one, I just wish the center doors didn’t have the decorative arch to them, but haven’t figured out how to get rid of that. As I’m saying that, I wonder if I can just remove the doors altogether, put a shelf there and use that to stack towels. Be right back.
