“Since the age of eight, I have been committed to social justice. The Sisters of St. Joseph taught us that all people are equal, and I bought it. Totally. In all of my writing, as a columnist for the Gardner News and the Worcester Telegram, as an academic writing articles and presenting at conferences, and now, as a novelist, I grapple with questions that touch on social justice. As an English Professor (retired/emerita), I imbued all of my classes with discussions of justice, equality, empathy in literature and in life.”
